Hilton Head, South Carolina
Almost every Summer Will and I take a family trip with my Mom, Aunt, Uncle, and little cousin to Hilton Head, a little island off the coast of South Carolina. After a challenging start to 2022, my soul was yearning for a break from work and daily life routine to enjoy some slow living. I appreciated more than ever before the little details of the South Carolina coast: the draping Spanish moss, colorful flowers and foliage, the soft sound of rolling waves, the early morning sunrise reflecting on the waters, and the late night stars that fill the sky over the vast ocean.
One of our favorite traditions when we cross the bridge to the island is to roll down our windows and smell the salty air- that’s how we know we’ve finally made it after a 12 hour drive!
It’s such a blessing to be able to experience this time with family and make the best memories. We always have lots to reminisce about after each trip.
Will and I shared a night on the beach stargazing. We laid out a towel and stared at the stars, professing our dreams for life and laid on our backs in awe of how loving, powerful, and fierce our Creator is. We noticed that something about the ocean and starry night sky brings out a unique feeling of closeness to God.
More than anything, this trip reminded me to enjoy every little thing about life and its wonders, and to not take any time for granted!
On one of our days in South Carolina we drove to Bluffton, a quaint and artful town just asking to be the setting of a Nicholas Sparks novel. While we were there, we visited the local shops, grabbed a coffee (of course) and headed down to the pier. Where Bluffton meets the May River there were beautiful historic churches. At the pier we watched as dolphins swam by and some local fishermen cast their nets. What I loved the most about Bluffton was how soft and slow everything felt. It was a joy to explore the charming old architecture and browse the town’s many art galleries.
One of my favorite things about traveling is the inspiration I bring back home with me. By the last day I am always left itching to get home and start painting!
This month I have been especially inspired by quotes, images, and music on living intentionally and appreciating life. While in Hilton Head, I was able to spend some time curating this inspiration through two of my favorite platforms — and I always love sharing! Now, to get back home and love on our pups.
